2012 Creighton target, Teddy Hawkins who was verbally committed to Wichita State following questions with grades, is heading to a new prep school in New Providence, Iowa called Quakerdale Prep. Hawkins still claims heavy interest in WSU, but could likely re-open his search for a school, and having Andre Yates on campus is a huge plus for the Jays.

So he will still have 4 years left for D1 since this is a prep school?

We don't have any room left if we get one of the guards we are after, correct?

(Unless someone leaves....)

I would be surprised if we went after Teddy but who knows in recruitting. As for rules can anybody contact him now or does he have to open it up? I'll bet Ill. State goes after him big time.

I think you are correct for next year, but the rule of good recruiting is to never stop recruiting. As others note there could be a departure an injury or someone could come in as a grey shirt to give us an extra scholarship year for someone like Deontae or even after going to prep school, he could end up at JUCO and kick the can down the road a year or so giving us time to find a scholie for him.

Lots of things happen in a year or two, and one of the things I love about our staff is that they build real relationships and keep them active even if the window is closed for the time being. I look at how they treat Akoy and see the same thing. He's not coming to Creighton this year, but in a couple of years-- who knows where he might want to play ball. Playing for really genuine and outstanding people like our coaches on an excellent team in front of 17K might have appeal if things don't work out elsewhere...

Still a solid WSU commit per his prep school coach in Iowa.

His new coach is also comparing him to Royce White.

The coach is quoted as saying that (1) Teddy didn't qualify academically and (2) Teddy will go to WSU after this school year.

I thought if you didn't qualify out of HS, you had to go to JUCO for two years? And if you did qualify but still went to a JUCO, you could go to D-1 after one year.

Or am I thinking of something else?

He will visit Ohio State soon. Maybe he won't go to WSU.
