don't see why Jarreau can't do the same

Agreed. Mo couldn't shoot 3's his Junior year. Jarreau was a freshmen, and if you watch his highlights, he has a good, confident stroke. If he put's the time in, I don't see why he can't be a 35% 3 point shooter. But, if he's not, who cares? We are loaded with guys who can shoot the ball. Some of the posters onthis board are just like Coach Mac. Why does EVERY player on our roster and we go after have to be a good shooter? Jesus. Why not have guys whose best skill is to defend, or rebound, or slash to the rim? If you have a couple of good shooters, that's enough to carry a team. Davion has shown he can shoot, Mitch and TyShon have reputations of being lethal outside shooters, Khyri has become a good shooter. Teams that go far in the tournament, which isn't us if you haven't noticed, aren't loaded with shooters. They may have a couple good shooters/scorers, but they also have guys who are awesome in their role, whether that's getting to the rim, rebounding, defending, etc. Jarreau is a 6'5 athlete, special talent, who can get to the rim at will, defend, and make plays. Greshams upside was never to be a scorer or shooter, he's an athletic and active big who can block shots, rebound and score inside. We don't need 12 shooters.

Agree with almost everything you said here. Shooting is pretty far down my list anymore as far as skills I'd want. You obviously can't go completely the other way and not have anyone who can knock down a three but I'd rather have a squad made up of 80% guys with Jarreau's skills and 20% shooters than the other way around. A shooter can only increase their athleticism so much. An athlete can better their shooting tremendously with some work.

It's interesting to me how fans of all teams these days think that what you see in a player as a freshman is who that player is going to be forever. That didn't used to be the case. If a player with talent struggled in a certain area, the excuse "he's only a freshman" was given and it was absolutely correct. With some exceptions, college is the time to develop and improve those skills.

Most high school players, no matter how talented, play in gyms with a few hundred people. Then, if recruited to a strong program, they have to get used to bigger auditoriums, thousands of fans, TV cameras, internet blogs, message boards, higher expectations, and a bunch more. That's a lot for anyone, especially an 18-year old. Maybe fans need to ease up a bit on freshmen.

I think freshman-year Anthony Tolliver may have been run out of the program if he was on the team in 2017.

this would be a really solid pickup. Three years to play and he would probably take over a starting spot once Khyri is gone. I don't think he's a fit at PG, and I would be (pleasantly) surprised to ever see the staff give him a shot at running our offense.

I guess I don't understand the "he's not a fit at point guard." Can any of you who have that stance say why? Because he's 6'5? He's a really good passer. He had one of the best passer ratings in the country, on an average team. Do your research

If Jarreau starts at PG at 6'5" and Harrell starts at SG at 6'7", my brain will explode.

Huh?

Eh, I get what you're saying but you don't want to go overboard. If you just go for the best guys you can get and don't get any shooting you're Nebraska. A lot of guys can become better shooters, but it's far from a given. A lot of poor shooters never learn how to shoot. That's something you have to look into closely with scouting. Does his shot look good or is it just busted? What kind of touch does he have?

Jacob, no one said that. I said what's wrong with having guys who aren't shooters, surrounded by a few good ones? We've been loaded with shooters and we've never made the sweet 16. No one said get a team full of guys who can't score, like how WV used to be

I quoted and replied to Freddy's post. "20% shooting" with the thought that you can make the non-shooters shooters is flawed logic to me.
