2017 G Brandon Rachal

Postby hilltopalum » Wed Apr 20, 2016 11:11 am

6-6, 220 lbs combo guard is quickly becoming one of Creighton's top priorities this Spring/Summer. Rachal can play the point and is highly interested in the Jays. Easily a top 75 player. Wing-span - 6-9.

Offers include: LSU, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Miami, Connecticut, Cal, Wake Forest, Kansas State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Massachusetts, Boston College, Creighton and UTEP.

Dual Football-Basketball star is getting interest from a host of SEC schools as a WR.

Saw he has a VCU and Virginia offer.. From the clips I watched he seems perfect for their style of basketball. Looks like a defensive stopper with good length. That would be 3 guards for the 2017 class if he were to commit.. Same with Waters.

I don't think its far-fetched to see us take another HS guard in 2017, especially one that can run the point. Patton and Krampelj will just be Sophomores when 2017 guards will be freshman, so I can see the Jays pressing hard for a Waters, Rachal or Chris Giles with one of the two remaining spots. I have to think Bowen and another Guard/Wing are the priority.

If we DON'T get Bowen, but get another guard as you mentioned, do we target another 4/5 for that last spot?

Think so. I see Bowen as a 3/4 in Mac's system. Similar as to how Izzo has used Draymond Green and Valentine. Having said that not sure how many great 4/5 are left out there in 2017 and I don't see this staff reaching for a player when they know they've been ultra successful on the transfer market. Jays also in good position for a number of excellent 2018s. Im sure they'd love to wrap up 2017 in the Summer of 2016 and move on to 2018 and 2019 (crazy to think about) later on in the summer.

moving one scholarship outta this class wouldn't be the worst thing

moving five guys in and out of the program at a time seems like a bit much, IMO. Probably creates more peaks and valleys in terms of performance.

just a thought.

I watched Tuggs on TV and he could easily be a Creighton stretch 4. He posted up a kid and then hit a Dougie/Dirk fade away just like that. Additionally, he can stretch to the 3 point line.

Love how this class is shaping up!! A BIG combo guard who can probably play 4 positions at CU is just fine by me.

Take the best available.

I don't really jive with the idea of Tugs playing 4 man, unless we play a point guard and 3 wings when he's on the floor. He's 6'8 180, and his body type looks like that of a perimeter player. If he put on 30 pounds I could see it, but even then I feel both his offensive and defensive ability are suited to a perimeter game

He can play the 2 through 4. Very versatile. You wouldn't ever think Ronnie was a 4 but he had effective minutes there last year. Outside of a Geoff-like 5 or a PURE point like Mo most kids in Mac's system fill multiple roles.
