Re: 2018 G Joe Cremo (Grad Transfer)

Why is it not a good sign? He’s weighing his options. Not a lot of grad transfers commit on the spot after one visit. This is their last go around, it’s smart to see every place that wants you.

Definitely for Missouri Valley Creighton, that would not be a good sign. For Big East Creighton, we are going to be constantly competing with the other big boys and so we have to get used to these guys taking a close look at multiple power conference schools and trust that coaches will each year get better and better at beating out those schools for the fellas that they want. We have had some good wins on the recruiting front over the last couple of years, and we have seen a few go el$ewhere. Hopefully will see more recruiting wins in the future. The days of hoping out top prospects don't get noticed by a power conference school until we have them safely signed are over. Now, we have to get good at competing against those schools.

Hopefully he hates every other visit. No offense to Joe, though. Just want him here bad. I keep saying I wish there was a good grad transfer stretch 4. With one I think we finish 2-4 again but without one I'm not sure about our depth

Where will Joe Cremo end up? https://bustingbrackets.com/2018/04/19/ncaa-basketball-where-will-grad-transfer-joe-cremo-end-up/

This article ranks the Top 5 likely landing spots, with Creighton landing at No. 5, with Penn State, Oregon, Gonzaga and Texas (in that order, from 4 to 1) ahead of CU. If you don't want to open the link, here's what it says about Creighton:

Pros

It’s good to note, that all five teams do have good guards already coming in, so the fit will be important. Far as the Bluejays are concerned, Cremo could easily slide in to replace the graduating Marcus Foster, and the former Great Dane is more than capable of playing at the point guard position. That would set up Kyhri Thomas to play more off-ball and the high-flying offensive system that coach Greg McDermott has will utilize Cremo’s skills to the highest potential.

Cons
Cremo isn’t the only grad transfer Creighton is going after, as South Dakota guard Matt Mooney also them on his shortlist. These two are essentially the same player, so if he commits before Cremo, then the Bluejays won’t be a contender.

The other factor will be about winning, as Cremo has yet to experience the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga, Texas, and Oregon all will have higher ceilings next year and Creighton will still be projected around a 6-8 seed even with him arriving.

And of course, Thomas still has yet to officially come back to the Bluejays. If he stays in the NBA Draft, then Cremo will probably end up elsewhere. Creighton is in a tough spot because other dominoes will have to fall first before this becomes a realistic option.

Jays v UT v Penn St. He won't take the West Coast visits. IMO decision this week.

Coach Pat Chambers' seat is hot at PSU...

Well let’s hope that at least translates to an official visit.

Creighton seems to be in a similar spot as PSU. Really missing one piece, though he’d be asked to be more of a 2-guard there where at PSU he’d do both.

Edit: I believe in one of the article he said the only schools he’d list publicly would be the ones he’d be visiting. Also said he was going to take his time and take all the visits.

Wow, that’s huge! Do work, Pat! The grad-transfer crop this year doesn’t seem too shabby. Two decent bigs from B10 schools, too.

Texas doesn’t make sense given the fact that their two guards, Coleman and Roach, return. Plus Andrew Jones will hopefully be cancer free and able to play again next season.

Oregon returns talented point guard Payton Pritchard, but has a starting 2-guard spot where he would be competing against talented incoming freshman Will Richardson out of Oak Hill.

Gonzaga returns both starting guards in Perkins and Norvell. If he’s looking for a starting gig they wouldn’t make sense either.

Creighton is losing 3 starters from this year’s team (assuming Khyri Thomas stays in the draft). They started 4 guards, so there would be an opportunity to start. On paper though they look like the least talented team of the five.

He's leaving tomorrow and is really pumped about it. He also got calls today from Villanova head coach Jay Wright and a Kansas assistant. So this process is far from over.
