I don't think so. Contrary to popular belief, the NCAA wasn't handing out waivers like candy this season. The players that got immediately eligibility were those who had legitimate hardships (i.e. sick family member) or were asked to leave by their previous team (and said team backed that up to the NCAA). There's no reason to think either apply in the case of AOC. Could he still graduate and become immediately eligible? Possibly. That's the best chance he has of playing next season (assuming he actually wants to).

I’d rather have Alex sit this year, like he wants to, and go all in on Walton AND Carton. Carton will actually probably receive a waiver, so I’d go all in there.

I think the benefits of having him sit a year are big for him and for us. This year, the minutes will still be tight. With him sitting a year, he gets a year of S&C and is incorporated into the team with much higher minutes the following year. Really a win-win

In his interview he said that one of the big selling points was the presentation made via zoom from our strength and conditioning coach. He said a whole program was laid out. The S&C folks knew Alex's situation very well and had a great plan for him. He definitely wants to work on S&C for a year.

I remember when the fanbase clamored for better S&C. We have definitely stepped up in that department.

From Jon Nyatawa:
The plan is still for #Jays transfer Alex O’Connell to redshirt this year. Creighton does not intend to pursue an immediate eligibility waiver, Greg McDermott said

I dont get why they didn't want to apply for it since players don't lose a year of eligibility this season. I know the plan was to sit him before they NCAA rule change but I think they should try to get him playing eligibility just for blow out situations to get him used to the team system in games

We already have a possible 10 man rotation without him eligible. With only 2 games probably against non P6 competition there isn't a lot of room for experimenting anyways.
