I doubt he wants the waiver.

I could only see him applying for a waiver if TSA leaves, and the staff wants to fill that void with O’Connell.

Not sure how likely or unlikely it is TSA leaves, but we’ll see. Logically you would think no way, but who knows.

Regardless, Alex is going to be a great fit in this offense. Good size, too

Good clip of O’Connell filling it up against Syracuse in the 2018-19 season

Alex can start the game planning for when we play Duke next year in the early season tournament.
We will have one, right?

I was thinking he could help with game planning for when we play Duke in the National Championship game next April. But that's just me.

Big fan of this commitment. The players we are recruiting heavily for 2021-2022 are Sallis, Bates and others who are exceptional players, but not necessarily the "Let it Fly" type that Creighton is known for. Not pure shooters; just ballers. To get a guy like Alex (and Walton, hopefully) who can be those outstanding shooters to surround the ballers would be a fun thing to watch.

Nice post Vivid.

Mac has his work cut out for him in re-tooling this Duke kid. However, a year in the program, scout team, and our culture - rubbing off on O'Connell should bring him around to being a Bluejay. He's got considerable work to do and a different system to learn...Git to work Alex. Welcome to the Hilltop!

Retooling a Duke kid? I'm pretty sure that won't be necessary. Competing with the best 5 star players each year would be tough for anyone. If I had to guess he lost playing time due to his defense and not his offense. I guarantee he's received top coaching the past 3 years and will be ready when called upon. He will spend a year learning the system and following that S&C protocol  and he will be a huge addition to ensure minimal drop-off in '21. Perfect marriage.

This is really a seminal date for this program under Mac. I'm just glad Rass didn't pull a "Nebraska" by getting rid of a coach building a successful program and weathering bumps along the way.

Wow. That's huge news. We'll really need him for 2021/22. Won't hurt having another guy in the locker room who has actually played in the NCAA tournament for next year either...

Our S&C did a great job last year. I can see where a kid would check on that prior to a transfer. He'll have a year to practice and build strength and quickness, and then onto playing a big role the year after.
