Really good point. I don't see how walk ons could be legally excluded from NIL benefits.

The thought just crossed my mind. It’s definitely gonna take a bit for the NCAA to iron out some issues with these new rules

There must be room b/c Kevin Obanor part of the fantastic duo from Oral Roberts that made noise in the tourney has Creighton on his list of schools he is considering transferring to.

He averaged 19 ppg and shot 46% from 3 last year. Career 42% 3 point shooter. Yes please!

They probably could, but why would they?

Because it would effectively end scholarship limits, and in a case like Creighton’s where they self-imposing a scholarship loss, it would end up not even mattering

What is the incentive for the player to do that though when they could instead go somewhere with space and then pocket that NIL money instead? There are plenty of rich kids right now that could afford to pay their way that still accept scholarships.

Agreed. I think there is some unnecessary, galaxy brain thinking here. Option 1: Scholarship + NIL money or Option 2: Just NIL money. Option 1 is the no brainer.

Could it happen in rare cases? Like when Doug won national player of the year as a walk on to make room for Grant. Or if a player really wants to player for a big name school and they are out of schollies? Sure. But I highly doubt players are going to start passing up scholarships to walk on places. Overthinking it.

I totally disagree. What is stopping a major Creighton donor (or group of donors) from giving a recruit way more NIL $ than they would otherwise receive in order to overcome the fact Creighton doesn’t have a scholly to offer said player? Seems like a very possible scenario, if there are donors willing to pony up the cash
