2024 NBA Draft (Baylor and Trey)

Postby WBR Tom » Tue May 14, 2024 2:30 pm

Baylor had a great first day; he led his team with 17 points and eight rebounds. Shot 6-of-11 overall and 3-of-6 from three, and had three steals. Basically, he did the same Baylor Scheierman Things that he did the last three months of the season here, except at the combine where every front office is watching close.

Jonathan Givony from DraftExpress said on ESPN2 that there's buzz around him at the combine, with people wondering why he isn't projected as a first rounder. Could be playing himself into a late-first round pick.

Trey is playing right now. Here's an early three he splashed:

Thanks for these updates. Wouldn't be surprised if Baylor sneaks into the first round. Hope Trey is solid second round. Go Jays!

Trey was 1-8 and went -27 in his first scrimmage. Tough outing, but hopefully he’ll have a comeback

Another good day for Baylor. Good chance he’s played himself into a late first

Trey was much better today. Unfortunately I doubt he gets drafted.

Trey is such a streaky shooter and I think that is what will ultimately keep him out of the first round.

100% - even across his time here he was 28.1%, 41%, and then 33.9% from 3 PT range. He brought that 3 PT shooting up as the year went on, but when he was off last year, he was really, really off:

Colorado State, Loyola, UNLV were his worst games of the year overall (was he sick at this time?), but he was 30% or under shooting in 6 games last year, and 40% or under in a total of 12 times and it wasn't just missing from 3 - Colorado State 1/11 2 PT, UNLV 1/7, Tennessee 1/8 and I remember feeling pain in those games when even the bunnies weren't falling for him

Baylor had cold games from 3, but only a couple where the 2 PT shots weren't falling as well.

I think he still gets drafted, but he's also a guy that a team is going to have to project that he can put it together and get more consistent, and to balance the above, when he was on, he could also be really good as well

Can’t remember where I read it, but one journalist was writing that scouts think his mechanics are pretty solid, except for getting himself squared up properly, which then leads to missing to the side more than he should.

It’s one week to go to the deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft. Most of the draft predictions that I am seeing have Trey toward the back end of the second round. Is there still still a remote chance that Trey will come back?

Especially in this new age of NIL and the potential of getting paid decent money for another year of college ball, I think there is pretty much always a remote chance for just about any of these guys who aren't pretty sure to be lottery picks. Probably quite remote, though.
