Well, I expected worst but if Clemson and Georgia are there it's not horrible.

You must not have clicked through the link at the end of the article, as LJay suggested. Try this:

This looks like a terrible event to become a part of. Low quality teams, low quality tournament, etc. Why can't we consistently get into things like the one this year? Other Big East teams seem to get into pretty good tournaments every single year.

Can someone show this to Coach Mac? I'm sure we can still get out of this.........

Oh, it's a dumpster fire of an event. I watched one of Iowa's games from this year's tourney and it was exactly what that article suggests -- a high school AV club producing a webcast. All it was missing was a nervous commentator stammering out "Boom goes the dynamite." Actually, that might have improved things. And that's just the broadcast! The locker rooms were tents with folding chairs arranged around a card table; they had to shower in their hotels. The media room for interviews was the same room where the laundry machines were (and storage for concessions). It was really something else.

Mac loves these Maury Hanks events though, so I'm not surprised we're back in one.

we hear so much from mac and everyone how much they appreciate the fans - and the support

but - choosing this tournament doesn't exactly send that message

That's a terrible field. I'd love to see the pictures Maury Hanks has of Mac and Co.

And then you have the glowing review from Wyoming, who participated in this year's event. From an article on the Mountain West on The Athletic:

• Wyoming (5-1): As mentioned above, Wyoming spent Thanksgiving week at the Cayman Islands Classic, where they won two games before falling to then-No. 12 Cincinnati in the final. Overall, Cowboys’ brass came away gushing about the event, but it had nothing to do with the beaches or sunshine.

Instead, the Cowboys' staff was blown away by the on-court amenities set up by tournament organizer Maury Hanks.

“We talk about good teams, good venues, one thing that Maury does consistently, he gets good officials too,” assistant coach Jeremy Shyatt said. “If you look at the officials that were down there, there were guys that did the Final Four, there were guys from all (Power-5) leagues. Now when you have quality opponents like there were down there (in addition to good officials), you have an NCAA Tournament feel.”

Wyoming has already let it be known that they’re eager to get back to the Cayman Islands Classic as soon as possible (they wouldn’t be eligible to return until 2021) but in the meantime, they have a scheduling challenge that doesn't need to wait another four years.

“We’re on the market, to anyone that would love to start a 2-for-1 from a Power-5 conference,” Shyatt said. “We’ll go to their place in 2018 and 2019, and they don’t have to come to our place until 2020. So come on over to Laramie.”
