The other thing about being in the big east is that there are a ton of worthy players for these teams and to some extent the balance of our team doesn’t lend itself to being a 1st team guy (excluding Kalk, you can’t miss him).

We know how valuable Trey is and by the end of the year, everyone else will as well.

His list is solid with Soriano being the semi odd inclusion. Kolek is reigning POY, Justin Moore if healthy is all conference, Hopkins dominated last year and Kalk is Kalk. Clingon, Freemantle and Trey not being in the top 5 show how good and deep the big east will be next season.

X fans on the college ball subreddit were saying they heard there was a cardiac incident which you never know how bad it can be. Everyone knows what happened to Josh Jones so hopefully nothing like that that ends his career.

I don't see anything confirmed but there are rumors on Twitter that Zach Freemantle might need another foot surgery.

Fox is working on a postseason tournament that would feature the top 16 teams from the three power leagues they hold TV rights to (Big East, Big 12, Big Ten). It would be held in Las Vegas the week between the NCAA Tourney's regionals and the Final Four, and teams from those leagues would be required to play if selected. Reportedly the Big East and Big 12 are already on board. Fox's plan is to work with their sponsors on NIL deals to pay players to compete in it -- ensuring it doesn't end up like football bowl games where players with pro prospects opt out.

So, two things. One, that might not be the end of the NIT necessarily, but it's another shot across the bow of the NCAA as an organization (since they own that tourney now). Come to think of it, if the NIT consists only of ACC and mid-major/low-major teams and the finals aren't at MSG anymore, that might be the end of it.

Two, the Big East's inclusion and apparent enthusiastic "yes" means both sides must anticipate their TV deal continuing past the current one.

Top 16 teams from those leagues that do NOT make the NCAA tourney, right?

Yes. Got ahead of myself there! Top 16 teams who don't make the big dance.

This strikes me as a rather dumb idea.

If you missed the dance then you probably had a shitty year.

Will you still have a coach (firings happen soon after a bad season concludes)?

Will half your team be in the transfer portal (this tourney happens weeks after the regular season ends)?

Will players with pro aspirations say ‘no thanks’ like you see with football bowl games?

Fox will have to cough up serious NIL coin to keep people in line.
