Dana in the Final Four

Postby CU Final Four » Sun Mar 26, 2017 9:45 am

Post your love for OUR man here.

I found Shatel's story interesting on his Oregon interview for the job and his time in the Northwest. In essence Dana said he would only leave Creighton for a chance to make it to the Final Four and he thought he could do it out of the Pac10. Agree on both points. The Kevin Ross rule restricts Creighton's recruiting. The only consistent winner in the Pac10 in recent years has been AZ and it hasn't been that great in the NCCAT.

I recall the story from Piv's book on Creighton basketball. According to Ras, both Ras and Dana would be fired (and Creighton moved down to D3) unless Dana won. The Athletic Department must have been losing a fortune then. Fr. Morrison was a fiscal conservative but I don't think the Board would have allowed that radical move at all.

Bottom line, without Dana Creighton basketball as we know it now would not exist. We would be stuck in the MVC and trying to stay ahead of Drake.

Oregon's Tom Shatel with a long piece on the hiring of Dana and his time there. Interesting regarding his use of transfers and the sexual assault incident.

Quotable quote, "Kilkenny said: "He believed that we could get to this moment. He wasn't going to leave after 16 years at Creighton unless he knew he could get here, to this moment." "

Shorter news story below.

Quotable quote, "Give Oregon credit," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "They were the aggressor and certainly controlled the game from the jump." "

Sound familiar?

We didn't control the URI game from the jump. That's why we lost.
