It'd come out of the non revenue sports budgets.

And the women would likely need to be paid for Title IX reasons, doubling the expenses.

Pay 15 scholarship basketball players 40k per year = $600,000
Pay N Title IX women's scholarship players $600,000.

Total = $1.2M

How much does Coach McDermott and his assistant coaching staff make?
McDermott is making 1.2M.

There are three assistant coaches, one assistant to the head coach, a director of basketball operations, a video coordinator, a diversity and inclusion officer/assistant coach, and two administrative assistants.

My google search suggested that assistant coaches make $150k+. So assuming that the video guy and AAs make half that, then we're talking another million dollars for the assistant coaching staff.

I'm making numbers up out of whole cloth here, but it seems like having a 2.2M budget for coaching of one sport with 15 scholarships (i.e., a ratio of 1 coach to 3 players) could be cut down to a mere 1M while paying some students some salaries.
