Was chatting about this yesterday. The timing likely helped the Bowen family as I don't think they had been paid yet. Had they been paid, and (likely) not reported it, you could add tax fraud to their problems.

I don't think this is correct. Why would you commit and enroll without being paid? They may not have been paid the full 100K but they were paid a part of it. Still in this years tax period so probably not a tax problem yet.

The Complaint alleges that the deal was to pay the family of Player-10 a total of $100,000 in four installments and that:
a. One of the persons charged (Dawkins) had a wiretapped telephone conversation on or about July 13, 2017 with a person "believed to be Father-2". Father-2 said he was meeting another of the persons charged (Sood) and Dawkins told Father-2 that Sood had $19,500 in cash for him.
b. On July 14, 2017, Dawkins and Sood had a wiretapped telephone conversation and Sood confirmed that he gave Father-2 the cash.
c. On or about August 16, 2017, Dawkins had a recorded telephone conversation with an undercover agent and said as to Player-10 that "we just need to take care of his dad with two grand monthly".
d. On or about August 23, 2017, Dawkins had a recorded telephone conversation with an undercover agent that Sood had $2,000 to give to Father-2.

Father-2 is the father of Player-10. Player-10 is reported in the media as being Brian Bowen. It seems from the allegations that the first installment of $25,000 was paid to Father-2 but the payment on July 13, 2017 refers to the amount of $19,500. It is not clear if the $2,000 was paid in August. Or September. Although arrangements were made in order to make the payment in August. The next $25,000 payment was due in November, 2017.

The facts are kind of confusing. Seems almost like the $100,000 was for Player-10 to go to University-6 (reported in the media as Louisville) and the $2,000 per month was for Player-10 to sign with Dawkins' sports management company when he turned pro. Another person charged (Gatto) is with Company-1 (reported in the media as being Adidas). The relationships are complicated but you can read for yourself. But it looks like Father-2 got at least $19,500 in cash on or about July 13, 2017 if the allegations are true.

All the cheat funds have been received in 2017 so there is no tax fraud yet since they have not filed their 2017 1040.

It is being reported that Coach-2 in the Court documents is Pitino, which means he is in a lot bigger trouble than previously thought. I had assumed that Coaches 1 and 2 from team-6 (Louisville) were assistants.

Rick was 'shocked' at the actions of these 'third party bad actors'.

I'm hoping he'll be equally shocked when he gets locked up for 5-10.

I'd love to put Rick and the Bowens under oath and see what they have to say.

According to the Complaint, one of the persons charged (Augustine) said in a meeting that was video recorded "no one swings a bigger dick than [Coach-2]" with Company-1.

and as we learned from the Sypher situation - he swings it for anywhere from 15-30 seconds.

In theory, couldn't a school like Creighton sue Louisville and Pitino? Im sure it is unprecedented, but most experts had Barbie Bowen ready to commit to Creighton. Creighton spent 2 years recruiting Bowen so they have invested a lot of time, airfare, motels, meals, possible loss of future earnings had Creighton signed Bowen. Creighton could have invested time else where. Seems like a case for damages to me.
Its not like the NCAA will ever punish the schools that cheat with anything more than a slap on the wrist. What? The NCAA is actually going to punish the schools that pay their salaries? Ya right. If you want a clean sport, it has to be cleaned up by all of the schools that make up the NCAA.
Penn State covered up child rape and a few years later they are ranked in the top 10 and a lot of the penalties have been eliminated.
Look at Dave Bliss at Baylor who had one teammate murder another and the lies and cover up that followed.
Stiffer penalties need to come down or there is no deterrent and the member schools of the NCAA have no one to blame but themselves.
