I mean this seriously not as an extension of any other discussion - I know we all want Justin to put on muscle, but how seriously should we take the assumption that he won't play until he does given what we have at the 5 currently? Justin against Will wouldn't even be a contest. Given that Will plays tons already, why wouldn't Justin?

He will be playing next year.

I mean I don't expect him to redshirt but we have an extremely - lithe, I guess, to be nice, center starting or getting starter's minutes for us now. It just seems to me that many posters expect us to 'hide' Patton to an extent until he starts to bulk up, but based on our current lineup I see no reason to expect that.

I don't see Patton being able to guard Big East centers next year. That will go to Groselle and Hanson. I do seem him playing the 4 w/Hegner.

Given that neither of our 2014 recruits saw the floor this year, I understand the tendency to be cautious surrounding expectations for Justin, but I see absolutely no circumstance (except injury) in which he doesn't play significant (15+) minutes right off the bat. He probably won't start right away, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect he does assume the starting role at some point. He has natural ability that no centers on our roster have. He will rebound and block shots better than anyone on our roster right away.

I couldn't disagree more. Groselle has turned out be a serviceable (and sometimes pretty good) 7 footer. To think a 215lb freshman center is going to come in and win the starting job seems a bit unrealistic. If both Groselle and Hanson are back next year, Patton will redshirt.

Patton will not redshirt.

But I do agree that Groselle has been quite good at times this season. The trouble is, he has a history of injuries. Hanson has been all over the place. I seriously doubt the coaches will trust a decent, but injury-prone center, and a guy who hasn't shown much in two seasons to hold down the paint next season. Patton will play. And he'll play a good amount.
